Amosun urges youths to shun shortcut to greatness

 

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged youths to shun shortcuts to greatness saying that there is no shortcut to greatness but hard work and perseverance.

Governor Amosun who said this at the weekend that when he hosted participating students of the state’s model school summer camp also urged them to pursue educational attainment with determination and hard work.

He used the occasion to restate the commitment of his administration towards investing heavily in education and enhance human capital development and access to quality service delivery.

The Governor spoke at a banquet held at the Government House, Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta shortly after ‎the students concluded a two-kilometre endurance trek, amidst fanfare.

The state government had inaugurated the summer camp for about 250 students at the Model School, Ewekoro to kick-start the commencement of operations of the multi-billion-naira model schools in September for the 2016/2017 academic session.

Amosun, who was joined by his wife, Olufunso, the state Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga, and top government functionaries, enjoined the students to imbibe the lessons learnt during the camp.

According to him, the young ones are Nigeria’s future leaders and they must be well nurtured to fulfil their aspirations.

His words, “The stepping stone to greatness is hardwork, there is no shortcut; and one thing that is a leveler, whether you are son of the rich or the poor, is education. Once you have education, you will mix and mingle with kings and queens.

“If you are well read and educated, there is no barrier for you in life. That is why it’s very key that all you are taught in this summer camp, imbibe and take it along wherever you go.”‎

Amosun explained that his administration’s investment in education was aimed at securing the future of the youths, saying “Politicians will just think about today but statesmen think about tomorrow.‎‎”

The governor also advised the students to emulate good role models, noting that the Gateway State had produced numerous eminent ‎personalities in various fields of human endeavour.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, commended the governor for providing the enabling environment and resources to actualise the model schools.

Mujota said the summer camp initiative was aimed at engaging children constructively during the ongoing holiday.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to security personnel, ministry officials and other stakeholders for the success of the programme.
