Ambode nominates Ex Lagos CJ, Philips, as LASIEC Chairman

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday nominated the immediate past Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayotunde Philips, as the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASEIC)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Philips will replace the retired Chairman of the commission, Justice Fatai Adeyinka.
Ambode, in a letter addressed to the State House of Assembly and read on the floor of the House, said that the decision to nominate Philips was pursuant to the powers conferred on him by Section 2 (1) and (2) of the LASIEC Act, 2008.
The letter, read by the Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiyu Abiru, stated that the nomination of Philips was in tandem with the provision of the law, which mandated that the House must ratify such appointment by way of screening and resolution.
NAN recalls that the House had earlier confirmed Ambode’s nominees for appointment as members of the Board of LASIEC.
Among members of the board earlier confirmed by the House were Dr Bunmi Omosehinde, Mr Lateef Raji, Mrs Toyin Ibrahim-Famakinwa and Mr Olusegun Ayedun. (NAN)
