Ambode assures on National stadium

Governors of South Eastern Region of Nigeria have been commended for sponsoring their boxers to the just concluded National Men and Women Boxing Championship held in Lagos.

An Executive Board member of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, Osondu Ogbu, popularly known as ‘Old School’ who is representing the South East on the NBF board, made the commendation in Lagos while commenting on the weeklong championship held at the Brai-Ayonote Boxing Gym, National Surulere, Lagos.

According to him, this is the first time the South East Region had good representation at the National Boxing Championship with Abia, Enugu and Imo State presenting ten (10) boxers each courtesy of their state Governors that provided their transportation to and fro Lagos for the weeklong event.

Ogbu reasoned that with such supports, the Eastern region will soon take over boxing in Nigeria. He also gave kudos to the various state commissioners for sports for facilitating the movement of their boxers to Lagos where they were also fed and accommodated for the entire period of the championship.

He equally challenged the boxers to reciprocate the good gesture by showing exceptional interest in the boxing profession in order for them to go far.

Ogbu also commended the secretary of the boxing federation Chimezie Asiegbu for single handedly running the competition with the little fund and called on other board members to join hand together to move the boxing federation forward.

The Nigerian Army boxing team topped the medal table at the end of the exercise leaving Lagos State with the second position, while the Nigeria Police machine team came third on the overall medal table.
