Amaechi accuses PDP of violating Rivers peace accord

Following the wave of politically-motivated violence in Rivers State, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of violating the peace accord, facilitated by the Nigeria Police Force, ahead of the 2015 general election.

Amaechi, who was reacting on Saturday, to the attack on an APC ward-to-ward rally in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where several people sustained machete cut injuries, said the PDP had made nonsense of the peace agreement.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6, Calabar, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, had in February, 2015, organised a peace meeting with major political parties in the state, including the PDP and APC.

But Amaechi, who spoke to about 15 members of his party, who were injured by suspected PDP thugs, explained that the attacks on APC members were becoming unbearable.

Amaechi, who spoke through the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, described the peace accord as a ruse, adding that the Police were not investigating the attack against APC members in the state.
