Akeredolu tasks African leaders on improvement of education

Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Thursday admonished African leaders not to see education as an investment opportunities but what everyone should give to its citizens.
The governor gave the advice at the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, while declaring open the Toyin Falola International Conference on Africa and the African Diaspora (TOFAC).
Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, said that no serious government would take education with levity hands.
He advocated for a uniform educational curriculum to be adopted by Africa Union (AU).
He explained that a reasonable percentage of fiscal budgets should be allocated to education on the continent.
Akeredolu commended the college for its zero tolerance for social vices noting that education should be a tool for positive transformation of the people.
Clement Kolawole described education as an effective instrument for the total liberation of the people if properly harness.
Prof. Kolawole spoke while delivering his keynote address at the ceremony adding that education is capable of giving one the requirements for self-emancipation.
He explained that the potentials of Africans could only be achieved through education when properly funded.
“Therefore, our leaders should extend the bold steps and initiatives that brought up AU to education.
“Education in Africa has to be strengthened and transformed to propel transformation and development” he added.
Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Oragun of Oke Ila in Osun State, said that education should be used to nip poverty in the bud in Africa.
Abolarin, who runs a free private secondary school in Oke Ila, called on philanthropists in Africa to come to the aid of the helpless and vulnerable.
The organiser of the programme, Prof. Toyin Falola of TOFAC, noted that the conference was aimed at capturing Africa with a view to engendering a bright and innovative future for the continent.
Falola, who disclosed that TOFAC had built an e-library containing 120,000 books for the Adeyemi College, assured that the organization would not relent on its oars.
He urged African continent to embrace itself as the driver of its destiny by harnessing the productive energies of its ample youths.
He also added that capitalising on the synergies of its diaspora would ensure peace with the necessity of forging global alliances.
