You aided Osoba to betray Ogun West, group tells Colleagues

A group, Ogun West Elders Forum, on Tuesday accused some elders from the Yewa Awori zone of the State of conniving with the former state governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, to truncate the chances of Ogun West in producing the next governor for the state since its creation.

The group, while addressing some selected journalists at the Ibara Housing Estate home of the former governor, berated the leaders for allegedly echoing the voice of Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

It could be recalled that some elders loyal to the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun at a press conference last week, slammed Osoba for allegedly betraying the zone in its past attempts at producing the governor of the state.

They also blamed Osoba for his recent statement, that the ticket of All Progressives Congress in Ogun has not been zoned to the zone, contrary to the statement of Amosun who has declared his support for the zone come 2019.

At the Tuesday briefing, another group loyal to former Governor Osoba, Under the aegis of Ogun West Elders Forum, slammed members of the forum loyal to Senator Amosun for collaborating with Osoba in 1992, 1999 and 2003 to perpetuate the offence.

Reading the press statement on behalf of the group, Hon Muftau Ajibola, however said the utterances of Chief Osoba has shown his commitment to delivering Ogun west agenda.

They also accused the members of the forum of not consulting widely before the press conference, adding further that the Forum has no mandate of the people to attack the former Governor.

The statement read in part, “We hereby state unequivocally and with all emphasis that the said Ogun West Elder’s Council did not consult or indeed have the mandate of the good people of Ogun West to cast aspersion on any Ogun state leaders more so a former governor of the state.

“It is important to note that some of the key persons at that press conference worked closely with Chief Segun Osoba during his two terms as Governor of Ogun State and were some of his closest allies at the time.

“How capricious and fickle minded humans can be! Ironically, some of these people collaborated with Chief Osoba in 1992, 1999 and 2003 to perpetuate the offence they now want Chief Olusegun Osoba to be crucified.

“The utterances and press interviews of Chief Osoba has shown him as someone who is firmly committed to the realization of Ogun West for Governor in 2019 in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.”

The Forum insisted that it will ensure that all qualified sons and daughters of Ogun West are given a play level field arguing that labelling some as ‘Tekobo’ (Strangers) was an attempt by Amosun to play politics of exclusion.

The Forum explained that it was consulting with leadership of other senatorial districts to ensure that all political parties field their candidates from Ogun West.

The group however lauded former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Amosun and other stakeholders for openly declaring their support for Ogun West.
