African swine fever disease hits Benue

The National Research Institute Vom plateau State and University of Agriculture, Makurdi have confirmed an outbreak of the virus infection in pigs known as African swine fever in Gboko and Makurdi local government areas in Benue state.

The Director of livestock Services, Dr. Edward Amali made confirmation in a chat in Makurdi said the disease has no cure.

He pointed out that although humans are not sub septuple to the disease bit stressed the need for proper measures to prevent it from spreading to other farms by disallowing vehicles from accessing other farms.

Doctor Amali listed the symptoms of the disease to include high fever, reluctance to stand, red or blue colour skin particularly near the eyes, stillbirth among others and would infect other animals within ten days.
