AFCON Qualifier: Police to beef up security in Kaduna
The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Solomon Arase, said on Sunday in Abuja that adequate security would be provided at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, for the match between Nigeria and Egypt.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Eagles will engage the Pharaohs of Egypt in the first leg of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Kaduna on March 25.
Arase told newsmen at the ongoing 11th biennial Police Games at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Abuja that the police was working toward ensuring a hitch-free match.
“We’ve been giving a very good account of ourselves as managers in terms of security and sports.
“We are not going to record any issue in terms of security during the match because I had an interactive session with Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia and Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick.
“We have in place a very robust security structure in Kaduna; all we are looking forward to is to celebrate after the match, so, there will be no security challenges,’’ he said.
The I-G said that the police would do its best to provide security during the encounter but urged the Super Eagles to complement their efforts by winning the encounter.
“They should make sure that their defence is very solid and that we do not concede any goal.
“If they concede any goal here, it’s an advantage to the visiting team; so, once we are sure that our defence is very good and we are able to score, then, AFCON 2017 qualification is sure,’’ he added.
