Adeleke’s death: Aregbesola signs inquest order, Osun Assembly holds special plenary

Osun State, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has signed an executive order setting up a coroner’s inquest into the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke under the Coroner Law, Cap. 32, Vol. I, Law of Osun, 2002.

The governor also appointed Mr Olusegun Ayodele, a Magistrate, as the head of the inquest.

He directed that the inquest be carried out in Osogbo, the state capital, within three weeks.

Aregbesola said the inquest became necessary because of the suddenness and the circumstances surrounding the death.

He said, “A sudden and an unexplained death of a person of high status must be investigated and documented.

“Therefore, the status of our brother, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the suddenness and the circumstances of his death, would propel a responsible government to set up an inquest to unravel the circumstances of his death.

“History will not be kind to us as a government if we fail to do the inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“We must do this for historical purposes because it is in the general interest of the community and state to investigate any sudden or unnatural death of this nature.”

The Solicitor General of Osun and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, said the circumstances and the suddenness of Adeleke’s death necessitated the coroner’s inquest.

She said the inquest would ascertain the cause of death of the former governor, adding that the governor, by virtue of the Coroner Law, was empowered to order such inquest in the circumstance.

Meanwhile, the Osun State House of Assembly said Late Isiaka Adeleke, life and time, was an embodiment of lessons as he lived a life of service to humanity and left an indelible mark in the sands of time.

In a statement by the Chairman House Committee on Information and Strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Honourable Najeem Salam states that though his death was sudden and unexpected, mortal must submit to the will of creator.

The Speaker who stated this at a plenary during a session of special tribute for the late Senator, said the house decried the attitude of some miscreants who created a scene and unleashed anger at the burial site.

In a tribute titled “Senator Isiaka Adeleke: One Death too Many”, Hon. Najeem noted that late Senator Isiaka reminded everybody that all men are mortal and therefore must prepare for death.

The Speaker said the late senator was like a revolving door who understand the nuances of the executive and legislative assignments and noted that his twenty-two months rule as first civilian governor set pace for socio economic and political development of the state.

He called on politicians to learn from his death and always remember that their relevance depended on people who voted them to power and endeavour to interact and interface with issues bothering on their welfare and responsibilities.

” it saddens me because legions of his dependants have lost a great leader but who are we to query why the creators of life takes it back when it is so glaring that we are in the journey designed and perfected by the creator at the risk of sounding spiritual” he posited.

The Speaker said the state has lost a fine gentleman, a political gladiator and prayed God to give people of Ede, APC family and people of Osun state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

In their separate tributes, the lawmaker representing Ede North state constituency, Honourable, Debo Akanbi, Honourable Abiodun Awolola, representing Egbedore State Constituency and his counterpart from Ede south state constituency, Honourable Nurein Adebisi described the late senator as politician of note who spent his life in the service of humanity.
