Adamawa Deputy Governor in Power Show

Residents of Kofare community are embroiled in a showdown with the deputy governor of Adamawa state, Alhaji Saad Tahir over the blockage of the only access road to their homes.
The action of the deputy governor who allegedly ordered the blockage of the road has pitched him against the residents of the area even as tension has started to build up over the issue.
The residents who vowed to explore all legal avenues to seek redress over the injustice meted to them by the deputy governor wondered how a man in his exalted position of a deputy governor will deliberately make life difficult for the people who are making use of the access road.
They accused the deputy governor of using his exalted position to short change them having entered into a contract with Governor Nyako’s administration which compensated him over the piece of land three years ago only to come and forcefully take over the land again because he is now deputy governor of the state.
One of the resident’s of the area Musa Kofare noted with dismay how the deputy governor ignored the plight of hundreds of the people of the area to close their only access road stressing that the action is unbecoming of a leader.
The residents noted with dismay that after collecting compensation for the same piece of land from the Nyako administration three years ago to provide access road only for him to now turn around three months after he was appointed the deputy governor to block the same road.
“He is just using his new position as deputy governor to retake the land he already collected compensation for. We have petitioned the Police, SSS and Emirate Council to intervene and save us from this injustice”, Musa Kofare added.
Another resident of the area, Maiwada Pullo, berated the deputy governor for promoting his business interest above public interest adding that as a well-to-do member of the society, morals will have made him sacrifice the land even if he is not occupying an elective office.
“It was unfortunate for the deputy governor to stoop so low and shortchanged hundreds of people he was destined to lead instead of him to assist them.
“I have never seen this kind of thing where government would pay someone compensation for a land and the person will later comeback to reclaim the land”, Pullo said.
When contacted, the Ward Head of Kofare, Mallam Abdullahi Idris, said he was aware of the development and had contacted his superiors on matter.
“I was just told that people were blocking the main access road to the ward. Nobody spoke to me before they started the work and when I contacted them and they said they were from the deputy governor, I
have to contact my superior, Mai Jimilla, who advised that we write a formal complaint on the matter”, Idris said.
Idris explained that the blockage of the road would cause untold hardship not only to the residents but to a major construction company which has heavy equipments.
Efforts to get the reaction of the deputy governor on the development through his media aid, Abubakar Dasin, did not yield any result as the aide who promised to get his boss reaction did not as at the time of
writing this report.
