Accolades reign as Wike’s intervention revives School for Gifted, Gwagwalada

It was a scene of despair turned triumph at the School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada, Abuja. Just months ago, cracked walls, broken toilets, and a collapsing roof symbolized a school on the brink of ruin. Learning was nearly impossible, the future of its gifted students hanging by a thread.
But salvation came through the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, whose intervention has transformed the school into a beacon of hope.
The institution now gleams with freshly painted walls, functional fans, and upgraded classrooms.
“Before the Minister’s intervention, the school was in a state of sorrow, with cracked walls, broken toilets, and a roof that was falling apart. Learning was nearly impossible,” he said.
Though some lingering challenges remained, both students and staff have commended the FCT Minister for the facelift.
Head Girl, Abdulraheem Taofeeqiyah praised the impact on their academics, saying, “Before, the broken boards and walls distracted us, but now, the conducive environment makes learning easier.” Still, she called for more chairs, modern books, and better library facilities.

Vice Principal Academics, Mrs. Rachael Alabi, recalled the precarious conditions of the past: “We prayed for divine intervention. The new structures are a blessing, but we still need modern technology and furniture to sustain the progress.”
Similarly, Head Boy Binuyo Dabira Goodnews highlighted how dining issues were resolved, saying, “Before, we couldn’t all fit into the dining hall, but now every student has space.”
However, he appealed for resources like modern computers and a school bus.
Library Prefect, Ikenta Ifechukwu Belina echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for updated books and digital resources.
“The renovation made the library more welcoming, but many books are outdated. To remain ahead, we need the latest materials,” she noted.
Mathematics HOD, Mr. Ezeigbo Chidozie, expressed gratitude but urged for digital upgrades.
“Our students are inquisitive, and we need tools like smart boards and computers to make learning interactive. With continued support, we can unlock their full potential,” he said.
As the school shines in its newfound glory, the community remains united in gratitude and hopeful for further government intervention to transform the institution into a model for excellence nationwide.
