Abuja Municipal Council chairman defects from PDP to APC

The gale of political defection hit the federal capital city on Monday as the Chairman of Abuja Municipal, AMAC, Mr. Christopher Maikalangu defected from his Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maikalangu whose defection was made known in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Madaki said his decision to pitch tent with the APC was informed by the desire to secure better opportunities for his constituents.
He emphasized the need for centrist political alignment by identifying with policies and programmes of the APC- led Federal Government.
The council boss insisted that the move was a strategic in promoting inclusive governance and driving sustainable development for the people of AMAC.

“The position we took is for the good of democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward.
“The decision is rooted in the collective interest of the constituents. I was not elected to lead the entire Nigerians, but the AMAC residents.
“I looked at the interests of my people and I have seen that these interests cannot be protected in any other platform,” he said.
Maikalangu, won the keenly contested AMAC chairmanship election in 2022 on the platform of PDP by polling a total of 19,302 votes to defeat his closest rival, Murtala Karshi of the APC who polled 13,249 votes.
