Absence of substantive MD crumbles NAMA activities

The absence of substantive Managing Director for Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has brought the activities of the agency to a near standstill as workers complained of lack of direction for the organisation.

A cross section workers who spoke to the Daily Times on the activities of NAMA noted that following the raid of the agency by operators of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the appointment of an Acting Director that NAMA had been crippled.

They claimed that with an Acting Managing Director, NAMA, as a navigational aid provider in the aviation industry, needed to be bubbling with activities, in order to keep the airspace more safe and secured, but lamented that there was a limit to the performance of the acting boss.

Daily Times further learnt that the Acting Managing Director, could do little or nothing, especially in taking key decisions on behalf of the agency.

“There are key decisions which needed to be taking on certain issues, but now he can do little or nothing. The ministry should not hesitate in appointing a substantive Managing Director, in order to rescue NAMA from collapse. The directors can hardly do anything because of the circumstances that brought the acting MD to power”, a source told our reporter.

NAMA has been engulfed in a crisis as a result of leadership tussle, when the erstwhile Managing Director, Nnamdi Udoh, took over from Ibrahim Auyo, a development which did not go down well with some top management staff of the agency.

An aviation watcher and publisher of Aviation Security magazine, Alhaji Abdulyekeem Umar, said there was an urgent need to appoint a substantive managing director for NAMA, in order to ensure continuity in the system.
