Absence of MRO: Nigeria loses over $500m

The country is losing over $500million annually as a result of non availability of Maintain, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in the country.

The Chairman of Air Peace, Barrister Allen Onyema who disclosed this in an interview with journalists at the Nigeria 2017 seminar Aviation Education infrastructure Challenges and Potential held in Lagos, said establishment of MRO will save the country of the said amount.

Bar. Onyema explained that $3.7m was spent by Air Peace on one aircraft outside the country for mentainance stressing that, having MROs will lead to gainful employment of Nigerian engineers and reduce capital flights out of the country.

He explained that that all over the world that airlines lease aircraft but only Nigerians purchase outright as a result of stringent conditions attached ranging from insurance to trust.

“All airlines lease planes all over the world but Nigeria does not lease because of the stringent condition attached. Air Peace will never lease plane.”

Onyema called on the government to support investors ready to do business in the country by providing land for the building of their facility base.

He welcomed the partnership between Boeing and Springfountain in trying to make the acquisition of aircraft easy describing it as you big plus to air operators.

According to the Air Peace boss, such partnership will improve the lots of airline operators and provide over 10,000 jobs in the country in the first one year.
