Abia Police list achievements in 10 months

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Adeley Oyebade, says the command in the last one year, August 2016 to July, 2017, arrested a total number of 175 suspected armed robbers, 28 kidnap suspects, charged 23 to court, rescued 21 hostages and arrested 11 Policemen for corrupt practices (extortion).

Speaking while parading the eleven Police officers arrested for alleged corrupt practices in Abia State and who are now undergoing several interrogations before the command as well as over ten other suspects, Oyebade said the affected officers after thorough interrogation will be made to face the consequences.

According to him, the command will not condone negative trend that will portray the Nigeria Police in bad light, hence it will not accommodate those who are not ready to carry out their professional duties in accordance with rules and regulations guiding the uniform/security organisations.

He observed the duty of security policing was to shun negative tendencies and be fair and just in the discharge of duties, hence, the command has zero tolerance for corrupt offences.

Oyebade further disclosed that during period under review, that the command recovered the sum of ₦825,300, $1018 and CFA 20 respectively as 164 number of cartridges, 79 ammunitions, 72 vehicles, 10 motorcycles, 6 tricycles and 47 locally made guns among numerous other items were also recovered.

Speaking on activities of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Police commissioner warned that there won’t be two Republics in one nation as he noted that his command has continued to manage the agitations to ensure there will be no distortion of peace for Abia residents and urged the people to come out with programme that will benefit Abians.

On issue of boundary dispute between Ikwuanno community and neighbouring Akwa Ibom State, Oyebade sued for peace as conflict resolution headed by him was doing everything possible to review the remote cause of the crisis for amicable and quick resolution.

He stated that his command was planning another round of visit to the troubled border areas to hold discussion with affected communities and pleaded for cease fire.
On tinted glass on vehicles, he warned the public for immediate removal unless those permitted by law, as according to him, the command will no longer tolerate any one/group found violating the order in the state.

Also on the issue of herdsmen/farmers in some part of the areas of the state, the police boss explained that his command has toured Arochukwu, Bende and Ohafia council areas respectively aimed at reducing friction and gave assurance that the conflict is being amicably handled just as he said that tension had drastically reduced in the affected areas.
