Abdullahi Sule: APC not worried about opposition ahead of 2027

Abdullahi Sule, governor of Nasarawa State, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not concerned about the activities of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

Sule spoke on Friday after a courtesy visit to Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman, at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja.

He said the emergence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) poses no threat to the APC, describing it as “weak and confused”.

“We have never been worried about oppositions, we have always been concerned about our strength and what we need to do, in order to give back to the good people of Nigeria.

“I don’t know about the ADC, from what I was told, it is a split, not from our party, but from another party, so, if it is a split from another party, well, they are only getting weaker. As far as we are concerned, we are not worried about that.

“Personally, I don’t pay attention to what the other parties are doing because I am more concerned about what my party is doing, and I think that is what President Bola Tinubu has always done. That is why all of us, governors, are doing what we can in our various states to support our administration, and we have to continue doing that,” he said.

On Agriculture and Security in Nasarawa

Sule said the state has remained relatively peaceful, allowing farmers to return to their fields in the past four years.

“Nasarawa state has been relatively peaceful. Our farmers have been able to go back to their farms in the past three to four years. You know our farmers have been having constant improvement in agriculture.

“That’s part of the motivation, in line with Mr President’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ on agriculture and food security, and that is why we decided to delve directly into agriculture.

“We acquired 10,000 hectares of land last year, cultivated and harvested 2,000 hectares of rice. This year we cleared an additional 1,300 hectares, so I think the minister of agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, wanted to come and see it for himself, and that is why he came to our state and expressed his appreciation to us,” the governor said.

On APC’s National Chairman

Sule described Yilwatda’s emergence as a boost to the party’s fortunes, especially in the north-central zone.

“The new chairman actually is another ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ chairman, who has come in at a time that somebody like him is needed. We, the people of north-central, have been agitating for the return of the chairmanship to our zone, we have no complaint now, he is in our zone.

“He recently visited Jos, where he was well received by traditional institutions, religious leaders, youth, women and elders. He is beginning to reform the party throughout the country.

“Already, the party is strong, and getting stronger with his presence, and that is what we are seeing,” he said.
