A’ Court hear Orji Kalu’s Appeal on ‘No case submission’, February 7

Hearing, in an appeal filed by a former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, against the ruling of Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos dismissing his no case submission has been fixed by the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division.

The appellate court, presided by Justice Garuba Lawal, fixed February 7,2019 to entertain the suit after listening to submissions of appellants’ lawyers; S. E. Elema (SAN), Solo Akuma (SAN) and K. C. Nwofo(SAN), regarding the transmission of record of appeal.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had slammed the erstwhile Governor and two others over allegation of fraud while he held sway as the number one citizen of the state.

Also on the same date, the court will hear separate appeals filed by Kalu’s co-accused, Udeh Jones Udeogu and Slok Nigeria Limited, in similar circumstance.

The EFCC was represented at yesterday’s proceedings by Adebisi Adeniyi.

Justice Idris had on 31st July, 2018, held that Kalu has some explanations to make particularly on certain documents tendered by the EFCC as exhibits in evidence against him.
