Emore siblings steps out with I am

ART runs in the family of the Emores in various genres. Oghenemeyoma Emore is a 19-years old young graduate girl who has passion for visual arts while her elder brother, Oritsegbemi, who is 21 years old, is gifted with photography and documenting scenes.
Their creative spirit is blossoming into a full-time career for them and will soon be a talk of the Lagos art scene.
Since her undergraduate days, Oghenemeyoma has been churning out diverse painting and drawings to her credit so also for the Oritsegbemi the brother in capturing scene and landscapes culminating into what will be their first joint outing in Nigeria.
Oghenemeyoma actually cut her artistic teeth when she enrolled at Lycee Francais Louis Pasteura, in Nigeria before proceeding to University of Werester in United Kingdom where he recently graduated and participated in her first group art exhibition.
Apart from that, the support from their parents spurred her into action in arts. “My father egged me and my brother on how to draw and paint. Learning the ropes of drawing from him made me to go for art related courses in my career.’’
Under her studies in Art Design with a touch of Media and Culture studies have really exposed her to showcasing her works publicly. While in school, drawing her inspiration from two world famous art figures, Marcel Duchamp and Nigerian’s Yinka Shonibare have as well brought her mercurial mind in the use of acrylic on Ankara works. “I use acrylic on Ankara which is my special medium over the years. And my pieces always come out colourful,’’ she said.
With their upcoming joint exhibition scheduled to open at Nike Art Gallery Lagos, and tagged I am, the siblings expects a good outing in terms good patronage. The show which will be opened by the French Ambassador in Nigeria Mr Deuys Geuyer has been planned to be a truly home coming hints the duo.
According Oghenemeyoma, about 30 works will be displayed during the joint show which opens on Saturday August 13, lasting for two weeks.
The two siblings in their first joint outing in their home country are upbeat that their encounter with collectors and aficionados at the Nike Gallery Lagos will be a remarkable one in their art career even as they prepared fervently for the show.
The show is expected to be a good outing as the duo is daily preparing to make it a memorable event. Hence, the two said they are ready to not only test the Lagos art market but will showcase works that will jostle collectors. “ I am very happy having to have this opportunity to showcase my photography in my country for the first time. It is a dream come true because it will offer the space to show my photography over the years to the public,’’ said Oritsegbemi, who confessed that he is inspired by nature, love of the environment and documenting everyday social realities. According the young debutant, going into photography is not just as a result of curiosity but one driven by serious passion in telling stories about life and people.
“For me, this is a wonderful outing because we have heard much about art in Nigeria and this is one opportunity where we are glad to start our journey from home. I am want also to use this opportunity to say that I am impressed by what Nigerian artists are doing. Their effort and achievements is also what inspired us to come down home and mount this joint exhibition,’’ Oritsegbemi said.
