Rio 2016: FirstBank’s support inspires me—Okagbare

Blessing Okagbare, Nigeria’s Queen of Track and Africa’s fastest woman has revealed that the tremendous support she gets from First Bank inspires her to accomplish what people may see as an impossible task.
Speaking exclusively to Extra Time Okagbare stated that aside being First Bank of Nigeria Limited’s Brand Ambassador, she has a personal target to accomplish at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
“On the possibility of winning medals at the Olympics, I think that should not be my worry for now. My focus is to try to do my best. I don’t have to worry about the timing being posted by some of my contemporaries because if I become worried in that regard then I will lose focus.
“I’m focusing on what Blessing Okagbare is trying to achieve and not what timing someone else is posting. In terms of confidence I’m always confident and proud of my country. I usually prepare myself well ahead of major competitions like the Olympics and having FirstBank supporting my career is a huge plus,” she said.
Reacting over her endorsement as FirstBank Brand Ambassador, Okagbare was quick to add: “It is an honour and a privilege. Being FirstBank Brand Ambassador has actually inspired to do more and be more focused in my career. When people or companies come together to support an athlete, they will actually expect the athlete to do well.
“I have a lot of people who believe in my abilities and there are great expectations from Nigerians from me. Therefore, I try to stay focused and do what I know how to do best.”
Okagbare further said that she was ready to recommend Nigerian youths to the Bank.
“Even before becoming an Ambassador of FirstBank I have always been a fan of First Bank.
“I want to encourage the youths to embrace FirstBank because of their core values of Passion, Partnership and People, while it also underpins the Bank’s stance to collaborate with its stakeholders and provide support in all aspects of their lives.
“The youths around me are among the people that inspire me too to put in more effort in my athletics career and I urge them to embrace FirstBank’s magnanimity.
“FirstBank is an iconic brand and an international institution with a proud heritage and pedigree of national development especially in the areas of sports and talent building. I have been a proud recipient of their goodwill and support,” she concluded.
According to FirstBank’s spokesperson, Folake Ani-Mumuney, the Bank is pleased with the endorsement of Blessing as this is a further testament to its support for youth empowerment.
