Edo APC urged to provide level playing field for guber aspirants
The Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council in Edo State, Mr. Osaro Obaze, has asked the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide a level playing field for all gubernatorial aspirants vying for the ticket, to avoid the mistake of the immediate past.
He said this was because Edo of 2016 cannot be regarded as Edo of 2008.
He also urged the party to shun endorsement and imposition of favoured aspirants by a god-father, as such a move was capable of causing grave political consequences.
At a press conference in Benin City, Obaze said, “a proper primary election must be conducted to ensure that the candidate that will emerge will enjoy 70% – 80% general acceptance by the party followers in particular and appeal to the electorate in general.
“For the avoidance of doubts, let me remind our leaders of the danger of one person playing the role of god-fatherism and trying to impose a candidate against the wishes of the member of the party”.
He said that “This is against the recent events in last year Presidential and National Assembly Election in which the party suffered huge losses as a result of wrongful imposition of candidates in Ovia Federal Constituency, i.e. Osahon vs Charity Amayamvbo”.
