Drug abuse root cause of thuggery in Bauchi- Police commissioner

The Bauchi state Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani has disclosed that based on investigation, the root cause of thuggery in the state has been traced to drug abuse by the youth.
The police commissioner stated this on Monday during a familiarization visit to members of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) at the union’s secretariat in Bauchi.
He said as part of measures to ensure adequate security in the state, he intends to promote community policing so that criminals particularly the ‘sara suka’ thugs that terrorize people in the state capital will have no hiding place.
On the forthcoming governorship inauguration in the state, Sani advised politicians to caution their supporters not to carry weapons to the venue of the ceremony coming up on May 29.
Sani threatened that anyone who carries any form of weapon to the inauguration venue would be denied entry because adequate security will be provided before, during and after the ceremony.
Welcoming the police boss to the NUJ state secretariat, state Chairman of the union, Comrade Ibrahim Malam Goje thanked the police chief for the visit, saying that there were 350 registered journalists representing various media organizations in the state.
He however, disclosed plans by the NUJ under his chairmanship to organize a training for its members on how to handle security matters in their reportage, pointing out that the state has enjoyed relative peace in the past couple of years and tasked the police on quick response to distress calls from the general public especially in hotspots to sustain the existing peace.
