NGO empowers 500 widows, Orphans, pledges to reduce sufferings

A nongovernmental organisation under the aegis of ‘Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organisation,(WOEO), has vowed to fight incessant abuse and humiliation of widows and orphans in most communities in Nigeria, especially in south- East and south- south geopolitical zones of the country.
The organisation said it has empowered over 500 widows and orphans in four states of Anambra, Imo, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States to reduce their sufferings.
The Improvement Manager, Mr. Nwafor Okechukwu who made this known in a press statement issued and made available to Journalists, said the organisation which started in 2004 has rescued many widows and orphans from the hands of their oppressors.
He noted that the organization which has its head office in Abuja, is currently partnering with United Nations, (USAID), to execute some projects in four states of the federation, targeted at reducing the sufferings of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria.
“Our organisation is into Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project, and we are currently doing LOPIN2 Project in 4 states namely Anambra, Imo, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
“We have equally empowered over 500 less privileged persons that is selected from the above stated states, apart from the LOPIN2 project which is a-5 year project that is funded by United Nations, USAID” he stated.
Nwafor, however, felicitated with widows and orphans in Nigeria as they observed the international widows day which took place at the weekend.
“It was a day set aside to talk about widowhood issues in the community. We join the international community to say that widows’ right abuse should end,” he added.
