Anambra Election: Security agencies assure credibility

The security agencies in Anambra state have expressed their readiness to conduct the Governorship Election scheduled for Nov. 18 in the state.

The Chairman of INEC/Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and Commissioner for Police in the state, Mr Garba Umar gave the indication shortly after a meeting of the Committee at the INEC headquarters Awka.

He said that the meeting was to review the progress that the commission had made so far and examine areas of improvement.

Mr Umar, however, called on the people of the state to come out en-masse to participate in the election.

On the issue of threat to disrupt the election by a group, Mr Umar gave the assurance that the security agencies were on top of the situation.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji said their card readers have been tested and was all functional.

He explained that the commission would within one week take possession of the permanent voter’s card and urged members of the public to go to the commission’s offices across the state to collect theirs.

The meeting had in attendance all the security chiefs in the state, the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Mr Sule Momodu and the Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Sunday Ajayi.
