Aiye o Gbofe (Life is not free): Helen Paul takes film production to another level

Movie Review

A fabulous story. Great acting skills. An intelligent directing effort. Helen Paul has really killed it with this movie. The popular gorgeous comedian really created a beautiful performance in Bunmi Olatilewa, Dapo Orishajobi, Seun Olatunji, Johnson Olowolefa, and Emmanuella Pobeni Adepoju. Together they killed this story of Awele (Bunmi Olatilewa) who decides to join an occultist group called Sisterhood, because of the pains, sufferings, insults and poor life style she had. But when she thought all hope was lost, Hope was restored to her. When she thought her sufferings and pains had ended she realizes they had just begun. Despite her sufferings she never stopped praising God.

Dolapo Orishajobi (Yinka’s mom) who is rich to the call. She was very rich and never accept things free from people. She met Awele and decided to help her by initiating her to her so called group called Sisterhood. Although she was trying to be of help to her so as to end her pains and sufferings. She succeeded in initiating Awele but the sacrifice Awele had to pay was really bad and unbearable.

To be Sincere, this is one of the recently made Yoruba movie that I watched and feel comfortable, happy and relieve. I enjoyed it so much. I really don’t get to watch Yoruba movies because I feel it’s a waste of time watching people speaking Yoruba most especially when it’s not even my language. But after watching the movie I realized I have been missing a lot from Yoruba movies and I am not happy about that. I kept watching it over and over again. There is plenty of suspense and comedy in Aiye o Gbofe, little suspense and that is quite refreshing to see.

One of the excellent part I have with this film is that there is awareness attempt by the film makers to force the audience to be in pleasurable emotion of anticipation.

Bunmi Olatilewa really did fairness to the role of a poor but God fearing woman. Who love her children so much. Despite her sufferings she still thank God and pray for riches for her children. Even when she was taken to the sisterhood for initiation and her sacrifice was giving to her she still made she kept Sunday apart to worship God. She is kind, hardworking and her quality in acting makes this performance worthy to be remembered. I rate the movie an eight out of ten because it was extremely good.

Dolapo Orishajobi was also magnificent too. Awele was indeed a great acting outcome, she made the movie look so real. The specific aspects of this production is that it a gets a round of applause from me. Cinematography is great, sound, lighting, costume, make up and editing are wonderful.

However, a lot of people do not know that most of the production crew members are students of the Helen Paul Theatre Academy and with this I say kudos for a job well done. If you haven’t seen this film, then what are you waiting for, go grab yours now. It is totally amazing. It’s a 8/10 movie score for me.
