Obiano, Ezeemo, Uba, Others Stress Sue for Peace

Prominent citizens of Anambra State including Governor Willie Obiano of the State, Senator Andy Uba, Mr Godwin Ezeemo have stressed the need for peace in various communities of the State to engender development in the State.
They spoke in Uga Monday during the centenary celebration of thes Obuofo 12 who were killed by the British colonial masters in 1916 for opposing their establishment of colonial administration in the community.
Governor Obiano who was represented at the occasion by the Head of Service, Mr Harry Udu, said the Governor’s major thrust in the State was peace and security because without it, there can be no meaningful development in the communities and the State in general.
Lauding the return of peace in Uga community which resulted in the celebration of this year’s Obuofo festival in grand style , the Head of Service said “the peace in Uga is what we need in every community.That is the effort of the Governor. Peace and security go together and the Governor has strived hard to enure security of lives and property in the State”.
He said Governor Obiano was part the peace that exist in Uga, assuring the people that their own of government amenities will not be denied them in Obiano’s administration.
Udu also urged the people to support the young traditional ruler of the community, Eze Chidi Ezenwugo and the leadership of Uga Improvement Union.
Senator Uba in his speech expressed satisfaction for the return of peace to the community and commended who brought the entire community together to celebrate the centenary of Obuofo fesrtival.
Stressing the need for unity, the Senator said if they came together they will perform wonders and expressed his appreciation for the selection as one of the awardees of the day.
Chief Ezeemo who is the leader of Progressives Peoples’ Alliance (PPA) said there were crises in many communities today because people who ought to say the truth have refused to do that.
“Nobody will come here to rule you. It is you that will rule and build your community. You should imbibe think home philosophy. Bring your investment outside to your community. This place will change. Your representatives should organize town hall meeting to brief you how they are representing you. We must communicate with the people. And it will be good for the community.Everybody has what he or she can do to move the town forward. No one person can rule forever. ” said Ezeemo.
The traditional ruler thanking the people for the return of peace in the community and honouring the occasion said that they were striving to develop Ug and everybody must come on board, saying that there should be no retracing of steps or slacking back.
In his speech, the President-General of Uga, Chief James Umezuluora, who traced the history of Obuofo 12, said the centenarywas to honour their heroism and sacrifice to Uga people.
He said the occasion was also to celebrate Ugo people who have distinguished themselves in different spheres of lives as well as raise about N1.2 billion for projects in the community.
Noting that Uga has prominent people in different human endeavour, Chief Umezuluora called on them to sustain the peace that has returned to the community and support in the development of the town.
Other awrdees include, the proprietor of Tansian University, Rev. Fr.(Monsignor Bosco Akam, the Uba brothers, Andy and Chris, Ezeemo, Prof Theodora Akachi Ezeigbo, writer and literary critic, her sister, Prof. Stella Okunna, a former Commissioner and Chief of Staff under former Governor, Peter Obi and a Professor of Mass Communication at Nnamdi Azikiwe Universty and their father, late Joshua Obinali-Adimora, who was the last District Officer (D.O) of Old Aguata province who received a post-humous award.
