52- year – old fraudster arrested for attempting to dupe police chief

A 52-year- old suspected fraudster, Tayo Ogunmola is presently cooling his heels in the detention cell of the Ogun state Police Command.
The suspect was arrested for attempting to swindle the command’s Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama of a huge amount of money.
Trouble for Ogunmola started after he had made a phone call to the police commissioner pretending to be an old herbalist who mistakenly sent a recharge card pin to the telephone number of the police chief.
He had pleaded with the police boss for the pin to be sent back to him. However, the commissioner who is familiar with the antics of fraudsters decided to play along with the suspect and sent detectives to technically track and apprehend the suspect.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect who unaware that he was being trailed and was presenting himself to the police commissioner as a deputy inspector general of police who is ready to assist the commissioner only if he can part with a certain amount of money.
“He did not know that the person he had been discussing with is a serving commissioner of police. Luck however, ran against him when he was traced to his hideout at Araromi phase II in Ilogbo area of Ota where he was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, he confessed been a fraudster who had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public of money running into millions of naira out of which he built the house he is living in presently,” the police spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police has ordered the monitoring team to properly investigate the suspect, with the view of arresting his other accomplices and arraign them before a court of competent jurisdiction.
