5 ritualist suspects nabbed in Ikeja

Another ritualist hideout was on Thursday uncovered at the Ile-Zik area of Ikeja on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and five suspects arrested.

This is just 48 hours after a suspected such deadly den was uncovered on Tuesday by residents of the Obadeyi-Ahmadiyya area of Abule-Egba and two suspects lynched.

Investigations revealed that a man who noticed the unusual movement in the drainage had alerted the police who upon arrival smoked out the suspects with tear gas.

Daily Times gathered that human clothes, wigs and other items were discovered in the area.

However, a source who spoke to our correspondent said there is a particular alphabetical code that the suspected kidnappers used in communicating among themselves.

The suspects were seriously battered but it took the intervention of the police to disperse people from lynching the suspects.

One of the suspects was said have been in possession of an iPhone and also revealed that he wasn’t the only one. Upon a thorough search of the drainage, the other suspect was arrested.

A mad man who was also suspected to be a part of the gang was whisked away by the police to avoid mob action.

As at the time of filling in this report, the Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), ACP Tunji Disu and other senior police officers were on ground to prevent suspects from being lynched.

When contacted to confirm the incident, the Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole said “let the police investigate and do their job before we give the public any information. For now, we are still investigating.”

Recall that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni had promised that the command would do all in its power to deploy sniffer dogs that can also penetrate into the canal.

“We will continue to give it a touch of professionalism and scientific approach by deploying sniffer dogs that can also penetrate into the canal to see whether we can get materials to be of evidential value.”
