3 die in Kano boat mishap

The police in Kano state have confirmed the death of three persons in a boat mishap that occurred weekend at Fankanoki village in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna the police identified the victims as Ashiru Hamish, 27; Ibrahim Tasiu, 45 and Buhari Basiru, 23, all of Fankanoki Village, Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

“A canoe containing eight people capsized and as a result five people were rescued and three others drowned,” he said, adding that the tragic incident occurred around 3:00pm last Sunday in an unnamed local river in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

According to him, the police were alerted around 5:00 pm and a team was quickly mobilized to the scene where five persons were rescued. He disclosed that investigation had since commenced to ascertain the cause of the incident.

He further revealed that the police have handed over the remains of the victims to their respective relations shortly after they were pronounced dead at the Tudun Wada General Hospital.
