A political support group, Tinubu Transformation Agenda 2023 (TITAN) has hit back at the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George for vowing to leave the country and become a Togolese national if the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu becomes the next president of Nigeria in 2023.
The group said the PDP chieftain lacked the moral standing to talk about Nigeria’s future having been convicted by the court of competent jurisdiction over corrupt practices while in public office, (the conviction was however overturned by the Supreme Court).
Speaking with journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Abia State coordinator of TITAN, Mrs. Chioma Ojiugo Iwueze described Chief George’s comments as not only inciting, but inflammatory.
According to Iwueze, “George lacks the locus standi to dabble into any political discourse where issues that shape the nation positively is at the front burner, talk less of making inciting and inflammatory statements against the person of Chief Bola Tinubu, an astute politician, a man of integrity and impeccable character and an accomplished leader endowed with vision and capacity.
“Coincidentally, history has it that it is this same Bode George that also vowed to leave Nigeria to another country if President Buhari wins 2015 presidential election. Today, Buhari didn’t only win the 2015 presidential election; he is currently serving his second term in office, while Bode George has not yet left Nigeria.
“Today, he (George) is telling us that he is waiting for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become President come 2023, before he travels back to his country, Togo.”
While describing George’s threat as unpatriotic, the coordinator said such utterances had raised various posers of George’s true origin.
“Is Bode George imposed to cause political disaffection in Nigeria through his unguided and unguarded statements capable of destabilising the system, while offering him the opportunity of running back to his original country, Togo as he vowed, if Tinubu wins as Nigeria’s President?
“Is Bode George transferring the aggression of his political and personality shipwreck to Chief Bola Tinibu – a successful business man and politician that had no hand in his political misfortune and new medal as ex-Prisoner?

“Why can’t Bode George seek for presidential pardon, aspire for the office of Nigeria’s number one citizen and make a proof of his relevance and capacity instead of the choice of running out of the country as a political fugitive?
“Why must Bode George continue to willfully subject himself and family to alien status in Nigeria if he is truly Nigerian?” she queried.
Iwueze described Tinubu as a visionary leader with mental capacity and impeccable character whose track records speak volume.
