2019: Yoruba leader cautions against violence, bitter politics

The President General, Yoruba Community, 19 Northern States, Dr. Jimoh Aiyelangbe has called on politicians to play by the rule to avoid rancour and politics of bitterness that could drag the country into chaos as the 2019 general election draws closer.

He stressed that, both religious and political leaders must shun hate speeches during campaigns so as not to cause set back to the relative peace being enjoyed in the country.

According to Jimoh, politicians should learn to eschew those societal ills that could drag the country into state of anarchy, stressing that the peace of the entire nation should be of paramount importance to every stake holder in the country.

Aiyelangbe, who also is the president of Ethnic Community Leader, (ECLAK), and Medical Director, Lafiya General Hospital, Kano, raised the alarm over high rate of unemployment among the youths, which to him, has led to cases of hate speech among the youths on social media, a trend he opined parents must rise to put an end to, by educating their wards on the dangers of such attitudes.

Furthermore, Aiyelangbe said that, the government at all levels must change from the traditional means of supporting the youths through micro credit schemes to micro-contracts, which would go a long way at making their lives better economically and otherwise.

He said that, there is the need for a stable power supply in the country which according to him would create jobs and wealth among the youths who are the leaders of tomorrow, but that would not be achieved if their needs are not met by those in power.

According to him, to have equity among the youths, everything necessary must be done to keep them engaged in productive activities.

He called on all non indigenes in the state to be law abiding and shun crime in whatever guise and learn to be their brothers’ keepers, respect the laws and customs of the state as they go about their legitimate businesses.
