2019: Panic grips parties’ candidates in Delta over allege credentials forgery
Palpable fear of the unknown has continued to unsettle parties’ candidates in Delta State over allegation that some candidates forged their credentials and related documents for the 2019 elections.
It was gathered in Asaba INEC office that many of the candidates’ credentials are allegedly forged as it has received lots of petitions against some of the candidates by their opponents who claimed the credentials of those cleared as candidates were forged.
For instance, our informed sources said Many of the candidates submitted NECO results that were either allegedly bought or Forged by examination Syndicates for them.
Expectedly, in the wake of certificate scandals across the globe and high places, Parties’ Candidates with Skeletons in their cupboards in the state are consulting on way forward to ensure they are not brought to public odium or disgrace.
Confirming the report, The Administrative secretary, INEC Delta State, Mrs Rose Orianran Anthony Who Spoke to Journalists in Asaba disclosed that some of the issues raised by the petitioners were being looked into but refused to disclose the candidates involved.
She said that pursuant to section 31Subsection3 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, INEC has commenced the display of particulars of the candidates for the 2019 general elections.
According to her, the publication and display of particulars of candidates’ are also in compliance with the section 34 of the Electoral Act which required the commission to display the names of candidates in all its Offices at least 30days before election.
She said that the particulars of candidates’ contesting for Governorship and the state House of Assembly Constituencies on form CF001will also be published and displayed in due course
adding that the Electoral Act provides for the Commission to publish within seven days of receipt of the personal particulars of candidates’ intent to contest the election.
She said:”the particulars of candidates’ currently on display are contesting for all levels in form CF001 filled and submitted to the Commission by the respective political parties” and enjoined all stakeholders
and the electorate to take advantage of the display to visit any INEC office closest to them for Claims and objections, adding that it afford those concerned to ensure that every details are correctly captured.
She said: “The commission will do it best to ensure that all Deltans see the particulars of candidates contesting for all levels are display at the notice boards at the 25 local government offices in the state”.
