2019: Amosun, Osoba disagree over delegate list in Ogun State

As all preparation kick start towards the 2019 general election, the incumbent governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and the former governor of the state, Segun Osoba has gone into political war in the state over delegate list.

The Osoba aggrieved faction led by the Chairman, Ogun state Central Senatorial District, Kunle Adesina took their complaint to the party Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday before the party National working Committee led by the National chairman, Chief John Odigie – Oyegun asking for the cancellation of the state congress held to nominate state delegates.

In the petition letter addressed to the party national Chairman titled, “Impunity and Imposition in Ogun state Chapter of APC: Demand for cancellation of Congresses”, Mr. Adesina said, “We are loyal party members that believe in our great party and the rule of law as enshrined in our party constitution and the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

The group said the continuation of impunity in the affairs of our party in the state which commenced shortly after coming to power in 2015 needs to be checked before it gets out of hand.

“We are constrained to write this open letter to further bring to your notice the continuation of impunity in the affairs of our party in Ogun state which commenced shortly after we came into power in 2015.

“The latest in the fragrant violation of our party constitution occurred in the recent congresses held on Saturday, 29th July 2017 across the state which did not follow the party’s constitution guidelines of conducting such crucial exercise.

“We got to know of the congress holding through the Ogun State Television (OGTV) few hours before the event, even as the Central Senatorial District Chairman, this is not acceptable”, he said.

According to the Chairman, “All our members perceived to be out of tune with governor Amosun’s succession game plan who showed up at the venue of the event were turned out forcefully”.

The group said it is on the basis of this impunity and illegal substitution of names of party official delegates that the teeming members across the state on Wednesday, August 2nd 2017 staged a peaceful demonstration in the state, addressing a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital exposing the impunity of the state governor and his agents in stifling the democratic space and internal democracy that the party is noted for.

“We are calling for the cancellation of the Kangaroo congresses held in the state on Saturday, 29th July, 2017 and the rejection of the list of names that emanated as the outcome of this congress”, he said.
