20 Communities In Plateau To Benefit From Water And Sanitation Facilities

Plateau State is set to benefit from the Hong-Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), project, which has its focus in Bokkos Local Government Area, to improve their access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

20 pro-poor communities in Bokkos, were yesterday agog when water and sanitation facilities was commissioned by a Community-Based Development Non-governmental Organizations (CBD-NGO).

CBD also in partnership with WaterAid Nigeria, provided eight new Hand Pumps Boreholes, 4 improved Hand-Dug Wells, 2 Blocks of institutional Latrines in 3 Schools and rehabilitated 12 Hand Pump Boreholes across the 20 communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mrs Vou Shom, Programme Coordinator CBD, said that the project is focused on improving the economic lives of vulnerable rural communities with a vision of seeing a world where everyone, everywhere has access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene.

Responding, the Management Committee Chairman, Bokkos LGA, Hon. Luka Makut, commended the facilitators that made the projects possible, with special appreciation to WaterAid Nigeria.

He said water project is part of the All Progressive Congress (APC), programme, in rescuing the State.

He urged the various communities to handle the facilities with care, stressing that water, hygiene and sanitation is vital to everyone for a healthy living.

He promised that government will continue to play its role through counterpart funding in sustaining these facilities.
