2 sisters-in law docked for allegedly assaulting in-law

 Two sisters-in-law were on Monday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting and pouring water on their in-law.

The defendants are; Blessing Warri, 39; and Gloria Warri, 35.

They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, wilful damage and assault, which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at 9:00 p.m. on Jan. 24, at No. 23, Ajose St., Mende area of Maryland, Lagos.

According to her, the first defendant, who married the second defendants’ brother, assaulted her brother-in-law’s wife, Mrs Mary Warri.

She said that the defendants poured water on the complainant, which also drenched her Fero phone valued at N20,000 and a voltage regulator worth N13,000.

Olaluwoye said that the defendants beat up the complainant which resulted in serious injuries.

The offences contravened Sections 412, 350 and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 350 stipulates two years jail term for the offence of wilful damage to property, while Section 173 stipulates a three-year jail term for the offence of assault.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs K.B. Ayeye, released the defendants to their family members and set down the matter for restorative justice.

“The two defendants are released to go home in the spirit of reconciliation and are bound to be of good behaviour.

“They are to avoid any fresh fracas in the compound pending the determination of restorative justice facilitation between the parties.

“Failure of which the two defendants will be remanded in prison pending trial,” Ayeye said.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 17, for mention.
