2 men in court for allegedly stealing N640, 000

The police on Thursday arraigned two unemployed men in a Grade I Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N640, 000 from a shop.

Ibrahim Isiah (26) and Lawal Amodu (25), who live in Kubwa area of Abuja are charged with criminal trespass, conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Suwera Ibrahim, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on June 22.
He said the defendants and others at large allegedly conspired and broke into Ibrahim’s shop and stole N640, 000 on the said date.
He said the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 379, 342 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Therefore, the prosecution urged the court to consider the nature and severity of the charges against the defendants while exercising its discretion in granting them bail.
The judge, Mr. Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present means of identification.
He adjourned the case until August 12 for hearing.
