2 dead, 7 injured as 3 trucks, fuel tanker, commercial bus collide in Lagos

A collision involving three trucks, a fuel-laden tanker, and a commercial bus occurred in the Anthony area of Lagos on Wednesday. It left two dead and seven injured.

The accident occurred around 9.30pm on Tuesday, involved two tipper lorries with number plates AKM 741 ZT and AKM 322 ZT, a fuel-laden tanker with number plate U 779 XZ, a containerised truck with an unknown number plate, and a commercial bus with number plate KTU 198 XN.

Daily Times gathered that the accident was caused by reckless driving, resulting in the death of two female passengers in the bus.

It was learnt that emergency responders at the scene included the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Ambulance Service, the LRU Ambulance, the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Fire Service, the LRU Fire Unit, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The accident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor. He said, “Upon arrival at the scene of the accident, it was discovered that multiple crashes involving two tipper lorries with number plates AKM 741 ZT and AKM 322 ZT, a fuel-laden tanker with number plate U 779 XZ, and a loaded 40-feet containerised truck with unknown number plate crushing a commercial bus with number plate KTU 198 XN as a result of reckless driving, thereby trapping the occupants inside the bus and causing vehicular obstruction on the main carriageway.

“However, the bus was forced open with the aid of the agency’s light rescue equipment and six adults and a child were rescued with varying degrees of injury and were given first aid treatment by the agency’s paramedics before been taken to the Gbagada General Hospital by the LRU ambulance and Lasambus; unfortunately, two female adults lost their lives at the scene of the accident.”
