2, 000 worshippers cheat death in Delta building collapse

No fewer than 2, 000 worshipers of “The Lord Chosen Charismatic Church”, were on Monday in Asaba, Delta State capital, escaped death following the collapse of the church building under construction.
It was reliably gathered that the worshipers, including residents of the area within the expressway on Asaba-Benin road, had assembled for prayers when suddenly the building collapsed. But a senior pastor of the church who did not want his name in the print, however, expressed joy that no life was lost, confirming that four persons working as labourers in the ongoing construction works sustained minor injuries.
‘He said’ “I cannot speak to you except I am given the permission to do so, the church here in Asaba is a regional headquarters and I need to take orders from the headquarters”, adding that the injured persons were rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving medical treatment.”
Eyewitness, Mabel Okorafor said the collapse of the church building came as a mystery, adding that it took the congregation by surprise during prayer session after which a loud noise was heard and the building was completely destroyed.
Investigation revealed that senior pastors including top elders of the church have been invited for questioning by the police as they may be detained for further investigation. But in a swift reaction, the police image maker in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu confirmed that investigation into the incident was ongoing, adding that those lavished for interrogation would be let go after their statements.
