10 killed, 1 arrested in joint military, police patrol in Taraba

A Joint Military and Police Patrol Team in Taraba have killed 10 suspected armed bandits and arrested one at Katibu village in Lau Local Government Area of the State.

Mr Faleye Olaleye, Deputy Commissioner of Police (FCP) Operations, State Police Command, made this known at a Press Conference in Jalingo.

He said the insurgents, who came on motorcycles, were gunned down when they engaged the Team on a shootout.

“On May 10, we received an intelligence that some armed bandits were seen in large number at Mega village in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State”.

Mega is a border between Adamawa and Taraba States.

“Several Police and Military Personnel were deployed to prevent possible attack on the communities in the area.

“While the bandits were returning after attacking Mega, they ran into our gallant Military and Police Patrol Team at Katibu, where they were repelled.

“10 of the bandits were killed on the spot,” he said.

Olaleye said exhibits recovered from the bandits were Two AK47, One G3 Rifle, One SMG, Three Den Guns and Four Motorcycles.

He named the suspect arrested in the operation as Michael Gwani, and called on the general public to inform the police if they see anyone with gunshots injuries.

Responding to questions, Gwani confirmed that he was actually arrested with a Den Gun, but denied having a hand in the attacks at Mega.

“The truth is I went to condole with the family of a friend who was killed in the area, but I was with a Gun because I am the leader of hunters,” he said.
