Zenith Bank Women Basketball League: First Bank thrash Taraba Hurricanes 60-15

First Bank Women Basketball Club of Lagos on Monday thrashed Taraba Hurricanes of Jalingo 60-15 in one of the final day matches at the Zenith Bank Women National League’s Phase One.
The league’s Phase One which started on April 10 ended on Monday.
The defending champions First Bank recorded their fifth win in the phase one with the victory.
They took control of the game by leading in all the quarters at the Abuja National Stadium , 15-2 in the first, 26-9 in the second and 47–12 in the third quarter.
At the end of the match, Peter Ahmedu, coach of First Bank, said he was happy they won the last game massively.
“This is our last game, and I am satisfied with my players because they played to instructions, and they gave me a good result.
“I am happy that we won all our games in the first phase. Our target was to win all our games in the first phase, and now we will go back home to prepare for the second phase in Kaduna, ‘’ he said.
On his part, Ahmadu Abba, the coach of Taraba Hurricanes, said preparations for the second phase would start now.
“The game was good, but it was not in our favour. My players were scared of the defending champions. But I’ m happy they were able to play with them.
“They are a new set of players I’m working on. We will work on our mistakes before the second phase. I need to strengthen our defence.
“I need to work on my players, I need to teach them on how to throw balls because they missed all their chances of throwing, especially as the second phase is our last chance in the league,’’ he said.
In other final day matches, Dolphins beat Zamfara Babes 71- 27 while Nigeria Customs thrashed Oluyole Babes of Ibadan 70-21.
18 clubs, divided into three groups, took part in the annual competition.
In Group A were First Bank, Nasarawa Amazons, Taraba Hurricanes of Jalingo, Plateau Rocks, AHIP Queens of Kano and First Deep Water.
Group B had Dolphins, FCT Angels, Zamfara Babes of Gusau, Delta Force, Coal City and Sunshine Angles of Akure.
Also, Group C had Nigeria Customs of Lagos, GT 2000 of Kaduna, Oluyole Angels of Ibadan, Ekiti Angels, Benue Princess of Makurdi and IGP Queens.
The league competition which ended on Monday is being organised by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
