World Book Day: DICL salutes stakeholders
Domino Information Company Limited (DICL) is joining the Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA), stakeholders in the book industry and every well-meaning Nigerian to celebrate The World Book and Copyright Day.
DICL particularly salutes all the creative and talented persons that work so hard to author and to produce books and other materials in print, electronic and other formats.
We also salute the efforts of our regulatory agencies including the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Consumer Protection Council and Nigeria Police among others.
DICL aligns itself totally with the theme chosen for The World Book and Copyright Day this year 2017: “Collaborative Efforts at Curbing the Menace of Book Piracy”.
Book piracy is a great evil and injustice. It robs hardworking individuals and organisations of their just rewards for no reason other than impunity. It robs the entire nation of revenue because book pirates do not pay taxes! It also helps to create unemployment because book pirates may only operate a criminal enterprise. Worse still, it corrupts our social order by suggesting to our youth that book piracy is one way to “get rich quick”.
DICL believes that collaborative efforts are needed to tackle this evil called book piracy. We believe even more strongly that technology has a major role to play in the collaborative efforts aimed at curbing the menace.
DICL is therefore very pleased to announce today that it has worked collaboratively with stakeholders across several sectors to create a GSM based solution that is sure to help in the fight against book piracy. This solution is known as the “Consumer Products Authentication Service (CPAS)”.
CPAS allows every GSM user in Nigeria to ascertain the authenticity of any product he or she wishes to purchase in 20 seconds. The service is free of cost to the buyer and does not require any special type of GSM phone or ICT skill.
All the buyer needs to do is to dial *223*PIN#. Within 20 seconds that buyer will receive a response confirming the authenticity of the book or printed material he or she wishes to purchase.
DICL believes that empowering about the millions of GSM phone users in Nigeria with CPAS will be a very effective way to enforce our copyright laws through the citizens themselves. CPAS is DICL’s own contribution to anti book piracy collaboration.
Again, we congratulate the Nigerian Publishers Association and all stakeholders in the book industry as they celebrate The World Book and Copyrights Day.
