Wemimo hints of clean up in Sunshine

Sunshine Queens head coach, Matthew Wemimo has hinted of possible cleansing of underperforming players ahead of the second stanza of the Nigerian top-flight.
The ‘Owena Mermaids’ ended their first stanza campaign on a 1-3 loss at FC Robo Queens on Wednesday in Lagos.
Wemimo said many things were not right at the start of the season which must be corrected to put the side on firm footing to compete favourably in the second term of the season.
“We have just finished our campaign in the first round of the league with a 1-3 loss to FC Robo Queens.
“We are already planning ahead for the second half of the season with a view of correcting and perfecting the loopholes that cheated us of good performance in the first stanza.
“We started the season very late as the old board was almost concluding plans to disband the club before the new management came in.
“Within the period of indecision quite a number of our first team players left the side to competitors leaving us with players who could not secure a greener pastures elsewhere.
“We only resumed barely ten days to the season’s opening match against Ibom Angels, I can say we were damn lucky to have won the match.
“Right now we are through with the first round of the league we need to fortify the team for the challenges of the second term.
“We need to do surgical operation of the entire playing force sure many underperforming players will be asked to look elsewhere while few new ones will come to take their places.
“We have well over 30 players on the call list I learnt the management said they need only 25 quality players.
“We will bring in players who are worthy to wear our colours and ready to fight at all times for good result.
“I believe that the second term will be fine in term of performance and result to help us take our rightful position in the league,” said the Falconets assistant coach.
The Akure landladies ended the group’s first term campaign on the fifth spot on seven points, five behind league leaders and champions, Rivers Angels.
