University of Abuja Renamed Yakubu Gowon University

On Monday, the Federal Executive Council gave its approval for the University of Abuja to change its name to Yakubu Gowon University.

This was disclosed to State House correspondents by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, following the council’s final 2024 meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

“The Federal Executive Council has also decided to rename the University of Abuja in honor of elder statesman General Yakubu Gowon,” Idris stated as the third item.

“Yakubu Gowon University will henceforth be the name of the University of Abuja.

“The FEC has decided to write to the National Assembly to change the name of the University of Abuja, but of course, the process will have to go to the National Assembly for all legislative work in that direction.”
