Ugwuanyi inaugurates community policing advisory c’ttee

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of has appointed 17 members to the Enugu State community policing advisory committee to ensure a successful implementation of community policing.

He inaugurated the committee in Enugu and urged them to come up with a best community approach to build trust and mutual understanding with the people.

“My administration will continue to give priority to people’s welfare and security as cardinal of every government. This project is in line with the state security architecture manifested with the establishment of forest guards and neighbourhood watch.

“I therefore, charge the committee to come out with the best strategy and grassroots collaboration to ensure the security of the people,” the governor said and expressed confidence in the committee members’ ability to deliver on their mandate.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Celestine Okoye, said that some people fail to understand what community policing is all about.

Okoye, who represented the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu, said the project has been in existence in the society and would not be controlled by the police.

” It is the community that owns this and we can only recommend their uniform and thank God it is today a success,” he said.

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Danmalam Mohammed in -charge of the new Zone 13, said that the police would do its best to give the south-east the security it deserves.

” I am happy for another opportunity to serve the south- east once again in a bigger capacity. Community policing is nothing other than cooperation between the people of the community and the security agencies,” Mohammed said.

The state Commissioner for Police, Mr. Ahmed Abdulrahaman, thanked President Mohammed Buhari for approving the project, while appreciating the police inspector general and Gov. Ugwuanyi for the role they played in ensuring that the project becomes a reality.

Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Mr. Lawrence Agubuzo, promised that the committee would work closely with the police to ensure that its objectives are achieved.

The advisory committee is chaired Abdulrahaman with Agubuzo as the co-chairman. Other members of the committee cut across heads of security agencies and heads of civil society organisations in the state.
