Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr Dakuku Peterside, has said that the agency was being re-positioned for greater contribution toward revamping of the nation’s economy.
Peterside said this in Abuja yesterday when he visited the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Bayo Onanuga.
He said that steps were already being taken to strengthen NIMASA’s capacity for revenue generation to ensure that it attained its objective.
The director-general, therefore, said that his visit to NAN was to forge a synergy for enlightening the public on the activities of the agency.
He commended Onanuga for his virtues and for the support NAN had been rendering to NIMASA and called for greater collaboration between the agencies.
Responding, Onanuga assured that NAN would continue to support NIMASA to ensure that it achieved its goals.
Onanuga stated that NAN had developed a free-to-read website and that the agency planned to establish photo and video portals.
He said that way, NAN would be able to generate revenue and depend less on government funding, adding that with adequate funds, the agency would compete with its counterparts in the industry.
Onanuga also disclosed that NAN would from the end of 2017, begin the publication of a ‘’Year Book’’ for the country.
