Taraba political attack: APC, PDP in war of words

The Thursday, January 17th, attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Candidate, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi at Wukari town has continued to raise dust as APC has accused Governor Darius Ishaku and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring the attack. The Taraba State Government on its part, has claimed that the attack was a growing desperation of Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi, Gubernatorial Candidate of APC, to destabilize peace in the State, make the State ungovernable and for the 2019 elections not to hold as scheduled. The Director General (DG), Sani Abubakar Danladi Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, Comrade Bala Bobboi Kaigama, who condemned the attack during a Press Conference in Jalingo, said it is a dastardly attack planned to kill the APC Gubernatorial Candidate. “We strongly believe that the attack on our convoy was a poorly executed plan to kill our Gubernatorial Candidate, Alh. Sani Abubakar Danladi, whose car was directly hit The Taraba State Commissioner of Information, Rt. Hon. Inusa Simon Dogari, who briefed the Media weekend, said the assault on Wukari was carried out by APC gang of political thugs, led by Danladi himself, describing it as the latest example of his desperation. “On that day, the gangsters driving in vehicles stocked with sophisticated arms and ammunition, began shooting to scare away people as they destroyed billboards and posters of the opposition political parties”, The Commissioner described the Wukari incident as a case of political thuggery, which according to him has become a character of Danladi’s political career. “We know that it is for this reason that he declined to sign the peace accord initiated by the Taraba State Police Command and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure peaceful campaigns and elections. The DG said, the action was completely unprovoked because the APC convoy was on transit when it was blocked from the front and behind pointing out that immediately after the affront, the armed gang unleashed a horrific attacked on its members using guns, machetes and knives. “Most of us escape to the nearest office of Police and the Wukari Division of the DSS, including the State Gubernatorial Candidate Alhaji Abubakar Sani Danladi, his Deputy Nugamiya Shimbura, Amb. Hassan Ardo, myself DG campaign Comm. The Commissioner added that Governor Ishaku, as a man of peace, personally is not happy about the unfortunate event in Wukari and condemns it in the strongest terns. He however, called on Polititicians to shun violence as they move about for campaigns and play the game according laid down rules. The DG of Danladi, on his part, however called on his supporters to remain calm and demostrste high restraint in the face of the attack on them across the state, adding that the Thursday incident was a clear sign of victory. It could be recalled that suspected hoodlums, on Thursday attacked the motorcade of All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Taraba State, Alhaji Sani Danladi. Danladi, who is currently on a campaign tour of the Southern Senatorial District of the State, was on his way to Ibi Local Government Area when some youths ambushed the motorcade at a junction in Wukari.
