Suspected coronavirus case tests negative in Borno – UMTH

The management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) says the suspected COVID-19 case isolated at the hospital tested negative to the virus.
Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Mala Bukar-Sandabe, made the disclosure at a press conference on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
Sandabe disclosed that the result from the specimen taken from the suspected case for test at the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Abuja, came back negative.
He said the patient was discharged from the hospital, but advised to isolate himself at home for a period of two weeks for further clinical observations.
The medical advisory committee chairman said the hospital has set up a 36-bed capacity isolation centre equipped with 50 diagnostic kits to enhance response to COVID-19.
He added that the hospital also set up a task force to work with the Borno state government’s response committee to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the state.
