STVSMB lauds Gov Ugwuanyi for revamping technical schools in Enugu

The Chairman of Science, Technical and Vocational School Management Board (STVSMB), Chief Obi Kama, has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for revamping technical schools in Enugu State.

Kama told newsmen in Enugu on Thursday that Ugwuanyi had within three years in office turned things around in all spheres of governance in education sector especially science and technical education.

He disclosed that the state was recently named number three in science and technology in the country and number one in South-East in procurement of equipment by the Board of technical education

Technical education remains the way to grow in the whole world and Enugu State has been keen on it.

“Just recently, a student of Government Technical College (GTC), Enugu won the best National Art and Painting Competition organised by Sharon Company.

According to him, the board of STVSMB, which was almost forgotten by previous administrations, has been reconstituted and energised by Gov. Ugwuanyi with all the support with a view to re-invent technical, vocational and science education.

“The re-inventing was meant to produce students whom upon leaving school are able to be self-employed and employers of labour; having been sufficiently equipped with skills needed to drive technology, innovations and invention for wealth creation and employment generation,’’ he said.

Kama noted that the board would continue to maintain a standard obtainable in Europe and America.

The chairman disclosed that the Board in collaboration with SME and German agency, GIZ, had organized financial management and entrepreneurship training for all students of technical schools across the state.

He disclosed that the impact of Ugwuanyi’s intervention in the technical schools had started yielding impact, adding that the state’s technical students emerged third in National Science Competition, produced a car named Gburugburu Car and shoes that are of international standard.

He further disclosed that 15 students from GTC, Enugu are currently undergoing further training with Innoson Motors Company, Enugu.

The highlight was the event was the presentation of the best award of National Art and Painting Competition, which was won by Master Nnadi Chijioke, SS3 student of GTC Enugu, to the chairman of the Board.
