South East can no longer wait on government to fix its roads – Ex-minister

Former Minister of Power, Prof Barth Nnaji, Sunday in Enugu said the South East would no longer wait on government to fix dilapidated roads in the zone.

Nnaji also said there were plans by the zone to seek authorization for private partnership to maintain the dilapidated road network in the zone.

He stated that they would no longer wait on government to fix the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt and Owerri roads.

“There are plans to seek authorization to maintain some major roads in the zone,” he said.

Nnaji also said there was a deliberate effort by Igbo entrepreneurs to develop and expand the economic base of the southeast.

He stated that already some Igbo billionaires have agreed to pull resources to ensure that agriculture,  road infrastructure, power, oil and gas and other areas of need for Igbo land was actualized in the shortest possible time.

According to Nnaji, “the Aba Integrated Power Project would come on stream in the next six months, all outstanding issues between Geometric Power Limited and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) was being resolved by the federal government.”

He stated that the project worth over N200 billion was the largest single investment in Igboland and would solve the power needs of the Aba and environs.
