Somolu Council boss hails Sanwo-Olu over environmental works in council

…As Eti-Osa East Council increases sensitisation to arrest spread of coronavirus among residents
The Chairman of Somolu Local Government Area, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, has applauded the Lagos State governor, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for sending the environmental team to the local government to clear drainages and canals in preparation to arrest the flooding of some areas in the state during the raining season.

The council boss in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Oseni Owolabi  Ajimomuya, praised the governor for ensuring that the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello and the Special Adviser to the governor on The Environment, Mr. Joe Igbokwe led environmental team cleared the system 2 canal in Somolu from Apata through Sodimu-Bankole Bridge, Anifowoshe through Bajulaiye to Akoka.
According to him, the last time the System 2 canal was cleared was in July 2017 by the state Emergency Agency as a result of an heavy rain which resulted into a deadly flood.
Hon. Salawu said this when he received reports of the canal and drainage systems dessilting and carting away in Somolu by Comrade Rotimi Oluyede (Special Adviser to the Chairman on Environment).
However, the chairman enjoined residents of Somolu to be more environmental conscious as their environmental status can tell the health status of residents, noting that most drainages are blocked due to negligence of residents on plastic and food wastes.
He also urged residents of Somolu to cooperate with the government on infrastructural, developmental and environmental projects.
The Chairman of Eti-Osa East Local Council of Lagos State, Hon. Olufunmi Rafiu Olátúnjí has continued to hold constructive engagements towards building a strategic and defensive measures against the continuous spread of the deadly Corona Virus (COVID 19}, which has continued to ravage Lagos State, Nigeria and the global community to avoid increase in the number local transmissions of the virus.
The Local Council, through the aggressive moves of the Covid 19 Enforcement Team, embarked on continuous and effective sensitisation of the public, using various community information dissemination channels to ensure that no one is found compromising the health and safety of any member of the constituency.
The team, led by the supervisor for Budget, Planning and Statistics, Hon. John Campos and the leader of legislative Council, Hon. Olaleye Taiwo Afinni also continued to constructively and systematically enlist the support of the markets leadership, community and village heads, Estate Property Owners and Residents Associations, Community Development Associations, Law Enforcement Agencies and other Public-spirited individuals in the fight against the local spread of the dreadful Corona Virus.
The enforcement of the government directives  had become imperative given the facts that many members of the public still ignorantly or mischievously considers the increasing confirmed cases of Corona Virus in Nigeria a hoax and had continued to carry on living unmindful of the relevant government safety directives with respect to the spread of the virus.
The COVID 19 Enforcement Team, was set up by the Hon. Olátúnjí  led administration to ensure that no life is endangered by the reckless or selfish acts of a few mischievous people.
Certain markets such as Ariyori Complex, Akinyemi Market and Pull-Up Lounge which were found to have violated the safety directives of the government were consequently made to pay dearly for it.
The team lead, Hon John Campos, while addressing a body of stakeholders reiterated the fact that the Virus is a reality and may not just vanish away as many wish or pray, but that everyone must brace up to adjust their way of life in a way that guarantee safety and well-being.
He pointed out that physical distancing, avoiding a crowded place, ensuring personal hygiene and wearing of nose masks in the public will do a lot not only in ensuring individual safety but also in stopping the community spread of the virus.
