Shun unnecessary strike actions, Oba of Benin warns doctors

The Benin monarch, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has challenged doctors and other health workers across the nation to take proactive steps to nip in the bud the incessant strike actions that is rocking the medical sector in the country.

Oba Ewuare explained that many lives which would have been saved were tragically lost, due to the ceaseless strike actions in Nigerian hospitals.

The warning came on the heels of series of strike actions by doctors, nurses and health workers nationwide.

The royal father gave the warning while playing host to the new Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Dr. Darlington Obaseki, in his palace in Benin, Edo State capital.

Omo N’Oba, who fumed at the unfortunate situation, challenged the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of University of Benin Teaching Hospital to save lives rather than concentrating on unnecessary strike actions that could be detrimental to the people.

The monarch also tasked Dr. Obaseki to leave no stone unturned at revamping all the departments of the hospital better than his predecessors for the benefit of all.

Earlier, the visitor, Dr. Darlington Obaseki told Oba Ewuare that he was at the palace to formally inform him of his appointment as the new CMD of UBTH as well as seek for royal blessings.
